SUMMARY:Artist Talk with Scott Schneider | Toxic/Nature Studios
DESCRIPTION:Toxic/Nature Studios features environmental photography by Scott Schneider that celebrates the majesty of nature and laments its demise\, in small moments. Using close-up macro techniques with his iPhone\, the photographs express Schneider’s appreciation for and concern about the environment. With the practice of taking photos daily of his surroundings\, Schneider creates archival\, digital prints from these images using environmentally friendly inks on bamboo paper. \n\n\n\n“As we become increasingly distracted by our devices\, we tend to overlook small disasters beneath our feet. Likewise\, we can fail to notice the beautiful moments present in nature. I explore these concepts in the “Toxic” and “Nature” galleries on my website ToxicNature.com. Beauty can also be found in the rust\, decay\, and textures of everyday objects\, which I highlight in the “Manufactor” gallery\, found on the website as well.” ~Scott Schneider \n\n\n\nJoin this event to ask questions\, learn more about Scott’s work and more! \n\n\n\nAdmission is FREE. Registration is not required.

SUMMARY:POSTPONED! Art + Sustainability: A Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Update: Due to inclement weather\, the event has been postponed until further notice and will no longer be held on June 13th at 6:30pm. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We will provide an update as soon as the event has been rescheduled.___________________________________________________________________________Join us at the Coral Springs Museum of Art on June 13th at 6:30 pm for an enlightening conversation on “Art and Sustainability\,” part of our Happy Hour Mix series. \n\n\n\nThree of our current exhibiting artists\, Milena Arango\, KX2 – Dana Kleinman\, and Ruth Avra\, will be joined by Andrea Lemaitre\, the city’s sustainability manager. Together\, they will delve into the intersection of art and sustainability\, discussing how these artists integrate sustainable practices into their creative processes. \n\n\n\nDon’t miss this engaging dialogue that explores innovative approaches to art-making while considering environmental impacts and sustainable solutions. \n\n\n\nAdmission is free for museum members and $10 for non-members. RSVP to secure your spot for an evening of insightful conversation and artistic inspiration! \n\n\n\nAbout Our Guest Speakers: \n\n\n\nMilena Arango\, is a Colombian artist based in West Palm Beach. She thrives on adventure and the exploration of new ideas to create compelling works of art. Her journey into the world of art was ignited by her mother’s boundless curiosity and zest for life\, at a time when she had the privilege of experiencing diverse cultures\, languages\, and people. Arango earned a degree in Visual Arts from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana\, embarking on a journey into the realm of theater shortly thereafter. This diversification of artistic pursuits has enriched her creative process\, where she continuously exploring new techniques and embracing risks\, finding inspiration in the unexpected and seizing opportunities with the first object that comes to hand. \n\n\n\nKX2 is a collaboration combining the strengths of artists and sisters Ruth Avra and Dana Kleinman who create mathematically inspired sculpture merging metal and painting.  From a distance the work is bold and geometric\, yet up close the viewer is engaged by textural hand-sanded metal and multi-layered paintings. By exploring geometry\, symmetry and connection\, their work aims to create a moment of pause\, inviting the viewer to escape the stresses of the day and find a space to achieve balance. In their most recent work\, themes related to environmental issues are presented with the hope to raise an awareness of the fragility of our natural ecosystems.  \n\n\n\nSince establishing their artistic collaboration in 2007\, KX2’s work has been featured in notable galleries and museums around the world. Importantly\, the work was leveraged to the international art scene with an invitation to represent the United States at the 2008 Beijing Biennale at the National Art Museum of China. Their work can be found in numerous private\, corporate\, and public art collections throughout North America. Avra and Kleinman currently reside with their individual families in Southern Florida. \n\n\n\nKX2 is environmentally conscious of material choices\, using up to 50% recycled metals and recycled canvas. \n\n\n\nDr. Andrea Lemaitre joined the City of Coral Springs as Sustainability Manager in 2023. She is responsible for implementing and managing the City’s Sustainability Action Plan\, developing policy\, coordinating city initiatives across departments\, providing education and outreach\, and partnering with the community and external organizations.

DESCRIPTION:Join artist Kristin Beck in honoring and highlighting Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month this June with her Memory Quilt community building project! Participants are invited to share their own memories to incorporate into the quilt. Fabric will be available to hand write memories\, or participants may contribute a piece of fabric from a meaningful piece of clothing (ex: a baby’s onesie or grandad’s favorite shirt.) \n\n\n\nYour participation in this community project will make this amazing and powerful collaboration possible! The finished quilt will be featured in an upcoming exhibition at the museum for all to admire. Have a story to share? Join us! No skill\, no problem! \n\n\n\nArtist Talk Part II & Fabric Dropoff DayIn this follow-up event\, during Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month\, Kristin will present the progress of the quilt with the incorporated fabric blocks from May. Watch and learn how Kristin assembles the Memory Quilt and how each piece contributes to the whole. This is also the last chance to contribute your own meaningful fabric to the project!
