SUMMARY:Opening Reception: "Style Masters: The Birth of the Graffiti Movement"
DESCRIPTION:The Coral Springs Museum of Art will welcome “Style Masters: The Birth of the Graffiti Movement” on view from Friday\, July 18 to Saturday\, October 4. The exhibit\, which is organized by the Museum of Graffiti and curated by Alan Ket\, will showcase the evolution and art of the American Graffiti movement. \nOpening Reception\nFriday\, July 18\n6 to 9 PM\nMembers Only Preview: 5 to 6 PM\n\n\nRSVP Below \n  \n\nAbout the Exhibition: \n\nWelcome to a survey of the evolution of aerosol art and culture\, its roots in New York City as a 1970s teenage pastime\, its explosion in popularity on the City’s walls and trains\, and how it went global to become the largest and most powerful art movement in recorded history. Breaking away from centuries of public graffiti that communicated messages of God\, love\, political beliefs\, or just plain humor – youth in New York City and Philadelphia began writing their names in flamboyant\, individualized fonts on any public surface they could find. This practice\, later called Style Writing\, served as art training for youth who lacked formal classes or approved creative outlets. Within a decade a new worldwide art movement emerged. It was rebellious\, expressive and led by teenagers committed to leaving a mark on society. Early documentation of this vivid art form by photographers including Keith Baugh\, Robert Browning\, Henry Chalfant\, Martha Cooper\, Don 1\, Flint Gennari\, John Naar\, Jim Prigoff and SJK171 allow us to see the long-gone early wall and train works of graffiti writers. Works on canvas by Blade\, Delta2\, Doze Green\, Kel First\, Phase2\, Tracy168\, Quik\, Sonic 002 and many others capture the energy and power of the early style masters. Works on paper dating back as early as 1973\, by artists such as Cos 207\, Fuzz One\, Part One\, Lee Quiñones\, and Chain 3 showcase the wide range of styles and the creative development within the art form. Site-specific installations by Disem\, Reds\, Tragek\, and Weerdo highlight local Florida styles as well as dialogue between artists transnationally. \n\nThe exhibition is supported\, in part\, by the City of Coral Springs\, the Broward County Cultural Division\, BBX Capital\, Funding Arts Broward\, and Montana Colors.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Imitating the Masters by Christian Early
DESCRIPTION:Imitating the Masters by Christian Early \nWitness how an artist on the spectrum can imitate the masters and bring to life some of the world’s most beloved works of art. This exhibition\, organized by the Coral Springs Museum of Art\, features paintings by Christian Early\, an illustrator\, cartoonist\, and painter who found inspiration in the grand masters. Adults with autism see the world differently and tend to look at details others take for granted. As a painter\, Early imitates paintings with his own unique twist. For example\, in Rousseau’s “The Dream” Early replaced the woman with a crocodile. In Van Gogh’s “Vase\,” he placed an eye on the vase and flower extensions. Through his strokes and colors\, Early offers us the privilege of discovering how a man with autism sees our world. \nOn View: September 5 to 27 \nExhibition Reception: Thursday\, September 18\n5:30 to 7:30 PM\nFree and open to the public \nBonus Pop-Up Exhibition: View Down Syndrome Children and Autism: Connecting Beyond the Artwork\, on view Thursday\, September 18 during the Reception. \nRSVP for the Reception below \n  \n

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Entre Dos Mundos: Hispanic Heritage Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception:\nJoin us for an Opening Reception showcasing work by talented South Florida-based artists that represent the intricacies of Hispanic heritage and the cultural\, social\, and aesthetic negotiations that emerge from the experience of immigration within the Hispanic diaspora. \nAbout the Exhibition:\nOn view October 2 – 29\nEntre Dos Mundos foregrounds the ways in which artists articulate complex identities shaped by both ancestral heritage and the lived realities of their adopted environments. The works on view explore themes of displacement\, adaptation\, and continuity\, situating immigration not solely as a rupture but also as a generative process that produces new forms of cultural expression. Through visual strategies that draw from traditional iconographies\, contemporary practices\, and cross-cultural dialogues\, these artists highlight the fluidity of identity across geographic and symbolic borders. \nThe Opening Reception and exhibition are free to attend and view. Both are located in the Center for the Arts Lobby (Hall Gallery). Free to attend. RSVP Below.
