Your first drink is on us! \nApril 18 theme:\nThe Allure of O’Keeffe Lilies \n(Georgia O’Keefe’s Calla Lilly Turned Away\, 1923) \n\nWelcome in Florida’s flowering season with one of the greatest artists of blooms\, Georgia O’Keeffe. A complete depiction of a lily\, Calla Lilly Turned Away\, 1923\, was influenced by the Precisionism movement and O’Keefe’s obsession with painting flowers. We’ll look at this important American artist\, and explore working with a limited palate\, muted colors\, the language of form and line\, and the influence of light as a subject matter. Herons and Lillies\, 1934 is painting inspired by Benson’s memory of herons from his trip to the Florida Keys. We will explore and uncover the compositional elements that make this painting so striking and energetic\, from the cropping elements to the angle of the horizon line and the distribution of color throughout the canvas.
