Museum to artists: What are you inspired by?

Call to Artist Exhibition

Museum to artists: What are you inspired by?

Coral Springs Museum of Art is making local art the main attraction, as usual, but in a different fashion.

In its new exhibition called “Inspired By,” the museum allowed participants to submit their own artwork. The theme is rather ambiguous, asking artists to complete the sentence: “My work is inspired by [blank].”
The deadline for electronic submissions was earlier this month but drop-off submissions are being accepted from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 1. Drop-off pieces will be selected the same day and artists must return to the museum at 3 p.m. to confirm acceptance and take home unselected work.

Those whose works have been selected will see their art on display in East Gallery from Thursday, Feb. 6 until Saturday, March 7.

“The museum understands the importance of supporting regional artists within the South Florida community,” said Julia Andrews, the museum’s executive director. “In doing so, we created an opportunity for artists to demonstrate their individuality and creativity brought about by personal inspiration.

“The exhibition is open media and will strive to showcase the artists’ uniqueness and imagination brought to light by their own inspiration,” Andrews said. “Open media within the open theme allows artists to work in any medium of their choosing, such as painting, drawing, photography or sculpture.”

The “Inspired By” Juried Media Exhibition Reception will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6. Admission is free.

Coral Springs Museum of Art is at 2855A Coral Springs Drive. Visit call 954-340-5000.
