Zhang Hong Mei
Born in 1973, she graduated in 1996 at the faculty of textile design at the Shangdong Academy of Fine Arts; in 2001, she obtained a second degree in textile design at the University of Qinghua, where she attended a Master’s to qualify in teaching.
She taught art from 1996 to 1996 at the Shangdong Trade- Union Administrative Institute as an adjunct professor.
From 200 to 2001, she taught textile design at the Institute of Education for the people with disabilities. Since 2000, she has collaborated with the most important Italian, English and Chinese textile design companies.
In 2000, she began her painting career with exhibitions and collaborations in the United States, central and southern America and Europe. Her work has developed through research dedicated to abstraction, but is still connected to certain historic references deriving from Chinese realism.
In 2000, her works entitled Barchetta and Tessuti were selected and exhibited at the International Art Biennal of Tapestry in Beijing.
In 2001, she became a permanent teacher at the faculty of textile design at the Shangdong Academy of Fine Arts.
In 2001, she participated in the Women of Art International Exhibition, on the occasion of Woman’s Day, on 8th March. In that same year, she participated in the competition organized by the University of Qinghua, winning second prize.
In 2002, she was selected once again to participate in the International Art Biennal of Tapestry in Beijing.
In 2003, she made some carpet design which were immediately purchased and produced by the Shangdong Jinan Tiangong Company; her works were spotted by the Wuxi Natural Textile Industrial wo decides to appoint her manager of the company’s textile design department.
In 2004, she received the prize for the Education of Textile Art for her essay Textile Art for the Protection of the Environment, published in the journal Interior Achitechure in China.
In 2010 she takes part in the 2nd biennale of Sabbioneta Paralleli.
In the same year she participated in the exhibition Stemperando works on paper in the city of Turin, Rome and Cosenza.
In 2011, in Denver at the Rocky Mountain Collage of Art and Design, She participated in the Post Bloom Exhibition.
Always in 2011 in Miami, at the Kavachnina Gallery, she participated in the exhibition Zhang Hong Mei, Zheng Yi and Xu De Qi together with other Chinese artist.
In 2012, she presented a video of her works at the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
In the same year, together with other important Chinese Artists, she organized a collective exhibition in Alessandria, Italy, called Oltermao and had her own personal exhibition.
