Preschool Roundup
Enjoy hands-on art exploration in a fun interactive learning environment. This creative play class is designed to build confidence, develop motor skills, and group social skills. Each week your child will discover unique works of art followed by a creative activity and project. This class provides preschool prep and is sure to spark inspiration and independence. For ages 3-5 no parent/guardian participation. A parent or caregiver must be present for ages 24 months and younger; only the child should be registered.

Discover the fine points of designing comic books. Explore character creation, storyboard design, drawing techniques and plot development. Ceramics- Hand building for Young Potters
This introduction to hand building class will teach the beginning methods of creating ceramic pieces. In the first session students will enjoy using clay techniques that include coil, pinch, and slabs. The second session will focus on continuing these techniques while exploring carving, stamping and textures in pottery. Sessions don’t repeat so you can sign up multiple times with no prior experience. This class will work on different projects weekly, and the last class we will glaze and fire all the work. Pick up of finished work the following week. Open studio hours are not available for these classes. Please bring your own hand towel and smock.

Each day campers will have 3 different studio classes allowing them to explore various media and projects throughout the day.

Adventures in Africa: Did you know that some of the oldest art and artifacts are found in Africa? Join us on an adventure and find out about the vast wonders of African art. Discover their customs while learning about the rich and diverse culture.

Incredible Islands: Hey MON’ do you want to learn about island life? Explore artwork from the islands of the Caribbean Sea, including Cuba, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands. Have fun learning about each place and enjoy the excitement of the islands!

Mini Camp

This flexible art for art’s sake option allows campers to explore innovative and exciting ways of creating! Each day campers will work on different works of art in an environment of art exploration. Parents may sign their child up for the whole week or for single days. Campers must bring a bagged lunch that does not require refrigeration and bottled water.

These immersive studio classes are intended for aspiring artists and designers ages 13-17. Learn from teaching artists who will share their artistic skills and experiences first-hand. Explore new art processes to further develop as an artist. Sessions are held for 2 weeks with morning and afternoon class options. Please bring snacks and bottled water daily.

Printmaking- This class focuses on the fundamentals of printmaking. Learn to experiment with various techniques and practices of printmaking. Develop your own style and designs from start to finish.

Comic Book Design: Create drawings of superheroes and characters and learn tricks in storyboarding, inking, lettering, and coloring. A comic book artist will guide students on how to evolve their sketches and narratives into a creative comic book story. A lively discussion of comic book history, characters, fandom, and trivia adds to the fun.

Session C: July 12- July 23 9:00am-12:00pm
Portfolio Development: Want to take you portfolio to the next level? Students will participate in group critiques and enhance their body of work for college admission.

Session D: July 26 – August 6 1:00pm -4:00pm
Drawing then Painting: Explore your technical skills and artistic approach to drawing then painting. Student’s will develop the skills needed to create a dynamic work of art from sketch to completion.

Ceramics- Open Studio Hours

Open studio hours are available ONLY to adult students registered in specific pottery classes. This is a time to practice the skills taught in our classes. See class descriptions or call to see if your class qualifies for open studio. Wheel throwing students are only allowed to use the wheel. Qualified students will receive an open studio card good for specific dates; they must check in and out of at the front desk of the museum and follow all the rules/policies of the pottery studio. Those who do not follow the rules/policies may have their open studio privileges revoked.  Open studio hours are independent without an instructor. Open studio hours are subject to change please check with front desk for up to date calendar

Level: Beginners to Intermediate

In this class students will explore the technical aspects of the camera including light exposure, IOS, shutter speed, and aperture. Participate in a series of creative on-your-own photography assignments followed by class critiques, to improve your ability to develop your photographic eye. Through a combination of demonstrations and individual work time, students will further develop their hand building skills while making distinctive pieces guided by instructor. A variety of construction techniques will include soft slabs, stiff slabs, and coils. Students will learn to add flair and professionalism to their pieces by adding finishing touches such as feet and handles. This class will help individuals develop and express their own unique style through clay. Clay is not included. A supply list is provided on the website and in your emailed receipt.
Prerequisite: Beginning Hand building at CSMOA or another Arts Center. This is not for Beginners.

Visiting Artist Workshop- Abstract Glass Candle Luminary
Instructor: Marusca Gatto
Level: All skill levels welcome
Location: In Person Workshop, Upstairs- Studio 2

Join kiln-formed glass artist Marusca Gatto in this exciting 1-day workshop. Students will cut and arrange an assortment of stained glass to create an abstract design that is kiln-formed or fused into a candle luminary. Your finished candle screen is sure to spark joy. Your finished piece will need to be fired and will be available for pick up the following Saturday from 9am-5pm at the Museum. All supplies are included with a $20 supply fee.

Visiting Artist Workshop – Journey into the World of Printmaking

Instructor: Victoria Englehart

Frottaging is the art of rubbing paper over uneven surfaces. In this workshop students use wax and acrylics to incorporate frottaged images, as well as incorporating other printmaking techniques to create two beautiful works of art. One will be completed in cool colors and the other will be created in warm colors of your choice. No prior printmaking experience is required. Supplies not included. Inspired by current exhibit, “DIASPORA” in a time of change, visiting multidisciplinary artist, Shawna Moulton presents her diasporic history and art. Learn about the imagination and creativity of artists who experience movements of migration to another part of the world or in another culture with a tour of the exhibit. Sit down with Shawna and create a watercolor painting on canvas that reflects your silhouette inspired by your history and journeys. Supply list included in emailed receipt.

Visiting Artist Workshop -Coastal Watercolor Painting

Visiting artist Shawna Moulton will show her techniques in paper dying and bookmaking that she studied in a traditional Japanese process. Learn and experience the traditional technique of paper folding and dip-dyeing paper. Visiting Artist Workshop -Silly Rabbit

Artist: Diane Lublinski
Level: Intermediate

Prerequisite: Must know how to throw a bottle on the wheel

Visiting artist Diane Lublinski will show you how to construct a “Silly Rabbit” sculpture from a wheel thrown and altered form. Adding hand-built elements to your thrown piece you will begin to carve and create texture. Explore glazing methods and much more! $20 for all material fee is included in price.
Rudimentary understanding of hand building and clay is necessary, wheel is a plus. Bring a snack/lunch.

Visiting Artist Workshop – Wooden Spoon Carving

Make your very own one-of-a-kind wooden spoon in this 2-day carving course. The focus will be on the tactile exploration of wood as a creative medium and methods to shape it into a functional work of art. We will cover everything from spoon designs, wood types, and finishing oils, along with knife selection and carving techniques so participants can experience the joy of creating their own hand-carved kitchen tool. A $20 supply fee covers your wood and carving tools that will be provided. Please come wearing clothing that you do not mind getting dirty. No experience necessary!

Visiting Artist Workshop – Relief Carving and Printing

In this non-toxic/ no solvent workshop, attendees will learn how to transfer drawing and printed images to a substrate (wood or linoleum). Carving tools and carving methods. Inking and printing of blocks on both paper and textiles. Ink, carving tools, paper, and woodblock/carving substrates will be provided with supply fee of $20 per person. This fee is included in the cost of the class. Bring snack/lunch.
