The Allure of O’Keeffe Lilies
(Georgia O’Keefe’s Calla Lilly Turned Away, 1923)
Welcome in Florida’s flowering season with one of the greatest artists of blooms, Georgia O’Keeffe. A complete depiction of a lily, Calla Lilly Turned Away, 1923, was influenced by the Precisionism movement and O’Keefe’s obsession with painting flowers. We’ll look at this important American artist, and explore working with a limited palate, muted colors, the language of form and line, and the influence of light as a subject matter. Try on Georgia’s serene and peaceful style to create a beautiful bloom of your very own.
